CHICAGO - An Elmhurst grandmother charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of her infant grandson told police she believed the child was the antichrist, prosecutors said at her bond hearing this morning.

Bond was set at $2 million for Sandra Clanton, 39. She has been confined to a hospital mental health ward over the last several days after trying to harm herself.

Assistant State's Attorney Michael Fisher told DuPage County Judge Liam Brennan Clanton was in her kitchen Saturday with her boyfriend, the child's mother and the 9-month-old infant "when she went into a rage."

"She picked up the baby, slammed its head into the sink and took a large butcher knife and began slicing the child under an eye in a sawing motion," Fisher said.

The infant's mother grabbed the child and ran to the police station while the boyfriend wrestled Clanton to the floor, he said.

Clanton told police at the Elmhurst station that the "baby was the antichrist." ...

Fisher said the child suffered a "substantial wound" under his eye and bruising to his head, but a scan showed no other serious damage.

Yikes. Poor kid. Thank God somebody was there to save him.

MOGADISHU: Residents of a coastal town in southern Somalia are living by the skin of their teeth, quite literally. Somali Islamist group al Shabaab is forcibly removing gold and silver teeth from residents in southern Somalia because it says they contravene the strict law of Islam, residents said on Monday.

Residents in Marka say al Shabaab has been rounding up anyone seen with a silver or gold tooth and taking them to a masked man who then rips them out using basic tools. “I never thought al Shabaab would see my denture as a sin. They took me to their station and removed my silver tooth,” resident Bashir said.

“In the station, I met several men and women whose dentures were being pulled out by a masked man they called a doctor. The doctor used a pincer or his gloved hand depending on the strength of the tooth,” Bashir said.

The group says the gold and silver teeth are used for fashion and beauty, which is against strict interpretations of Islam, residents said. Al Shabaab, which means “youth” in Arabic, is a Qaida-inspired outfit.

Well, damn. If that's what they do to the gold-toothed, wonder what they'd do to these platinum mouth havin'-ass niggas 'round here.

ASUNCION, Paraguay - A baby boy born 16 weeks prematurely was declared dead by doctors at a hospital in Paraguay only to wake up in time for his funeral wake hours later.

Dr. Ernesto Weber, head of pediatric care at the state-run hospital in the capital of Asuncion, said the baby weighed just 500 grams when he was born.

"Initially, the baby didn't move, he practically didn't have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus of 24 weeks dead," Weber told Reuters Television.

But when the family took him from the hospital to prepare him for his funeral, the unbelievable happened.

"I opened the box and took the baby out and he cried. I got scared and I said "the baby's crying" ... and then he started moving his arms, his legs and I got scared, we got very scared," said one member of the family, Liliana Alvarenga.

The hospital has begun an investigation and the baby is now in a stable condition in an incubator.

That's pretty fuckin' weird.

A Chinese worker killed himself after a fourth-generation iPhone prototype he was responsible for disappeared.

The 25-year-old engineer, Sun Danyong, who worked for Foxconn, jumped from a 12-story building last week. A Chinese newspaper reported that his property had been seized and that he was held in solitary confinement, where he faced "unbearable interrogation techniques" for having lost one of 16 "4G" prototypes. Foxconn apologized, but questioned reports that police beat Sun.

Apple issued a statement this afternoon in response to a report by CNET. A spokeswoman said the Silicon Valley firm is "saddened by the tragic loss of this young employee and we are awaiting results of the investigations into his death. We require our suppliers to treat all workers with dignity and respect."

His property was seized and he faced "unbearable interrogation" over a lost iPhone prototype?!? That shit's crazy! Is Apple run by Steve Jobs or fuckin' Keyser Soze?

Apple apparently has a super-strict confidentiality policy, and I guess this kid thought jumping off a building would be lesser punishment than whatever Jobs 'nem would've done to him.
